Napoleon in Nells Park
The French Revolution is raging outside. The Elector flees, Trier cathedral is being used as a stable - and a man named Nikolaus von Nell resolutely pursues his dream.
On the outskirts of the city, von Nell drains a swamp to build an English garden. He puts a lot of money and even more passion into this project. Trenches have to be dug, trees planted, greenhouses and farm buildings built. His gardener Gotthard supports him in this endeavour. In 1801, after eight years of hard work, the park is completed. The two will have been proud. Even Napoleon honours its creation with a dinner service sent from France.
